Australian studio Edwards Moore has revamped a little brick home in Melbourne by adding a new storey and a translucent roof. A small single-storey terrace residence, dwarfed by the surrounding urban fabric. The aim, to boost the very good high quality and scale of the living spaces inside, improve the sense of aspect/outlook and access to organic light, while keeping a private and comforting oasis.
By thinking about the addition of the second floor not fundamentally as the addition of horizontal plane perched atop the current structure, but equally as a vertical space which, by means of its connectivity amongst ‘branches’, creates a exceptional sense of volume and unity within the dwelling as a whole.
